Abdominoplasty is the surgical intervention by which excess skin and fat are removed from the lower abdomen, the rectus abdominis muscles are stretched if there is diastasis. As part of the intervention, pre-existing scars on the abdomen (e.g. caesarean section) or part of the stretch marks can also be removed. Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that can be associated with liposuction, and many patients are recommended both procedures. The procedure can be of great help to women who have had multiple pregnancies and have far apart abdominal muscles. The most common cause of abdominal deformation in women is pregnancy and, implicitly, multiple pregnancies. In the same way, the weak natal post also contributes.
It is good for patients to initially lose weight (through diet, exercise or bariatric surgery) and then after you have achieved a stable weight over time and have excess skin and little fat, to resort to the abdominoplasty operation that will outline the new shapes. Basically the body mass index that is calculated based on height and weight will decide if you are a good candidate for this operation. It is addressed equally to men and women who present a excess skin and fat on the abdomen, which does not disappear through diet or physical exercises. This "short" is, in some cases, the result of large weight losses. Another cause of abdominal disfigurement is drastic weight loss, whether it's the result of effective diets or bypass surgery.
It is recommended to quit smoking before and after the operation, blood tests are done before the operation to check the general health condition which must be good, the ideal weight is reached which will be maintained after the operation. Recovery is generally harder the first week when the patient cannot straighten up completely, the pain is bearable, a minimum of 2 weeks of rest is needed for a quick recovery.
